Hamilton Road Extension

HEI provided Phase III services for this $20.8M federally funded roadway reconstruction and new roadway alignment from west of Bunn Street to east of Morrissey Drive (US 150). The project consisted of reconstructing existing Hamilton Road from east of Morrissey Drive to the BNSF railroad, constructing new roadway on new alignment from the BNSF railroad to west of Bunn Street, reconstruction of Bunn Street north and south of Hamilton Road, and reconstructing Rhodes Lane from Hamilton Road to Morrissey Drive (US 150).

The project included removal of all existing infrastructure, earth excavation, field tiles, full depth HMA pavement with aggregate subbase, curb and gutter, storm sewer, water and sanitary sewer system replacement, PCC sidewalk and driveways, and traffic signals. HEI provided a Resident Engineer, construction inspectors, and material testers to oversee construction.

The HEI staff was responsible for construction inspection, CMMS entries, daily diary, quantity documentation, traffic control inspections, erosion control inspections, HMA , aggregate, and earth nuclear density testing, and concrete testing. Due to the project being funded with federal funds, the HEI Resident Engineer routinely coordinated with IDOT construction field engineer, materials section, and documentation section. In addition, the project included a new railroad crossing so significant coordination was required during construction with Norfolk Southern Railroad.
