HEI provided design engineering services to reconstruct Wabash Avenue (FAU 8012) on the west side of Springfield. This three-mile section of Wabash Avenue had experienced dramatic commercial development in recent years, and the resulting increase in traffic was overwhelming the existing three-lane roadway.

This project included widening and resurfacing the existing roadway to provide a five-lane facility, complex drainage design including storm sewer and detention, sidewalks, traffic signals, stage construction, and associated work. Drainage and access proved to be challenging due to limited available right-of-way on this commercially developed arterial.
