I-74/I-155 Interchange

In 2012, the Illinois Department of Transportation – District Four selected Hutchison Engineering, Inc. to provide construction inspection services for the I-74/I-155 Reconstruction project. This project featured the reconstruction and widening of 3.0 miles of I-74 along with a complete reconstruction of the I-74/I-155 interchange near Morton, IL. The project included widening I-74 from 4 lanes to 6 lanes with a concrete median barrier, reconstructing the I-74/I-155 interchanges to improve safety, and reconstruction of 6 structures, highway lighting, and installation of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) elements for traffic monitoring. To maintain traffic flow throughout construction, the project included a complex staging plan with 14 separate stages. The Hutchison Engineering inspection team worked very closely with the contractors to make minor adjustments to operations to throughout construction to reduce staging changes while providing safe travel through the construction zone. Construction of this $86 million project began in 2013 and was completed in 2016.

HEI was selected by the City of Aledo to provide preliminary and construction engineering services including preparation of a project development report, plans, specifications, estimates and full construction oversight for the construction of a recreational trail along IL Route 17/94.

HEI was selected by the Illinois Department of Transportation - District 3 to provide construction oversight services for the reconstruction of at-grade Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) crossings in the cities of Pontiac and Dwight, Illinois. The projects were part of the Illinois High-Speed Rail project involving improving existing rail services between Chicago and St. Louis with upgrades allowing trains to travel up to 110 miles per hour. The $4 million Dwight project included UPRR crossings on Mazon Avenue (IL Rte. 17) and the crossing on Chippewa Street.

The Iowa & Illinois Department of Transportations selected HEI as part of a Construction Management/General Engineering Consultant (CM/GEC) team to provide overall construction management for the I-74 central section corridor in the Quad Cities.

HEI was selected by Tazewell County to provide construction engineering services for the construction of a new 736' long, 6 span, steel plate girder structure. The project included demolition of the existing structure, new substructure including 2 abutments, 5 piers, steel plate girders, reinforced concrete deck, concrete parapets, concrete approaches, and other collateral approach work.

HEI was selected by Illinois Department of Transportation, District #3 to assist in the construction observation of the Bourbonnais Parkway/6000N and I -57 interchange project. This project was a $63 million contract that consisted of the construction of a new diamond interchange for 6000N Rd and I-57, which included replacement and widening of the existing structure carrying 6000N over I-57, I-57 ramp construction, widening 6000N and intersection improvements at US 45/52 and IL 50.

This 0.6 mile project consisted of removing existing paved shoulder along the north side of Bus. 24 between McCluggage Rd. and Cummings Ln., constructing 10’ wide concrete recreational trail, curb & gutter, installing culverts, storm sewer and earthwork. The project was funded with federal ITEP funds which required additional coordination with IDOT and FHWA. Construction of this $600,000 project was completed in 2016. The project was awarded the APWA Public Works Project of the Year 2017, Category: Transportation, Less Than $5 million Division.
